This is the big moment everybody is waiting for. Here in Tecate property taxes are due in January. And heavy penalties are imposed for late payment. But no one is in a big rush about it. Everyone is waiting for the big announcement that comes later. The banner reads:
Pay your predial obligation now and enjoy all the benefits of important city services with out late fees!
Savage winds and wild fires interrupted the easy life on he ranch. Phone, Internet, electric power lines – all civilized services that make life convenient ceased to function for two weeks! Things look better today.
It’s fiesta time! Cinco de Mayo commemorates the defeat of the French at the battle of Puebla in 1862. The battle led to the repulsion of the French occupation in 1867. There will be parades and music and dancing, soul food and drink. Ironically the big holiday is celebrated more in the U.S. than in Mexico – even as far away as Washington, DC. Feliz Cinco de Mayo!
