I THINK I’LL PASS

It’s hard to pass up a good deal. You can’t beat “free”. On the other hand, I’m working on a new novel and I need all the time I can get. So I called for the special offer. A very nice girl took my call. I explained that it just isn’t practical at the present time. “Can you send me the special offer later?” I asked. I won’t tell you what she answered.

FELIZ DIA DEL PAVO!

The American Thanksgiving holiday is not celebrated here. The landing of more illegal aliens was not wonderful news for Mexico. It all happened in 1863 when Abraham Lincoln declared that a day of thanks giving would be observed on the fourth Thursday in November. If memory serves me President Franklin Roosevelt changed the date in order to stimulate the economy during the depression. Then it became known as Franksgiving. He later put it back where it was. But here in Tecate any excuse for a feast will do. We call it El Dia del Pavo. We don’t serve it quite the same way. The stuffing is a rich and zesty combination of chile ancho, chile guajillo, chile de arbol and tocineta. No mashed potatoes and gravy, no pumpkin pie. But you might see a big bowl of guacamole, and of course, flán. Happy holiday to all my friends and readers everywhwere!

EL NIÑO DROPPED IN!

Along with the rain El NIño showed up with a few of his friends, El Viento, El Frio and Jack Frost. Our only defense here on the ranch is a big kettle of pozole simmering over an open fire. Buen provecho!

FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS

What do you do when there is no tech available to service your computer? Here in Tecate we have two choices. Throw it off a cliff or call in the brujo Yes! Witchcraft is the only sensible answer. I’ve had this spook in here before. He does essentially the same smoke and candle show but I’ve got to admit he did what the tecnico couldn’t do.($830.) The brujo explained to me that the Dell is emotionally disturbed. This explanation makes as much sense to me as the mumbo jumbo I get from the tecnico. If this gets posted – I’m a believer!
